Alberobello  On December the 7th 1996, the Unesco inserted the “Trullis of Alberobello” into the list of world wonders, to be protected and preserved as unique and exceptional marks of a disappeared civilization and cultural tradition, offering an example of building techniques relative to a meaningful historical moment, constituting an example of human dwelling representative of a culture. The history behind the trulli is that in the Middle Ages anyone who built a dwelling on the King's land would be heavily taxed. Due to this the people of Puglia cleverly designed the drywall stone Trulli  for purposes of tax evasion. When the taxman arrived  the Trulli were rapidly  dismantled. After he left the trulli would be rebuilt. Alberobello, the Trulli capital, is a fairy-tale city. Signs adorning each home add magic to the already amazing setting.
